UN climate summit seeks clarity
This year's round of UN climate talks are opening in Poznan on Monday with nations attempting to set the terms of a new deal on all aspects of climate change. The talks mark the halfway point in a two-year process agreed at last year's UN conference. Poland insists that it will not spend its way out of trouble Poland has no intention of trying to spend its way out of the looming economic slowdown, Donald Tusk, the prime minister said. His comments align the country with Germany rather than the US and the UK as international divisions grow over how to handle the financial crisis. Poland prepares anti-crisis package, cuts 2009 growth Poland's government prepared an anti-crisis package worth 91.3 billion zlotys ($31.40 billion) and will cut its 2009 economic growth forecast to 3.7 percent from 4.8 percent, the prime minister and the finance minister said on Sunday. Further resignations at Agora SA
Jaroslaw Szalinski has, with imediate effect, resigned on Friday from the management board of Agora SA, the media company. The company's new finance director will be Grzegorz Kossakowski, up to now director of new projects. Interferie plans hotel construction for 100 mln on Baltic Coast Interferie, a subsidiary of KGHM, plans to spend PLN 100 mln for hotel construction on the Baltic Coast. It will be its biggest hotel with 600 beds and will probably be called Barbarka II. Internal Security Agency launches investigation into currency depreciation According to Puls Biznesu sources, Internal Security Agency (ABW) officers are meeting with financial market experts. They are inquiring into the influence, motives and operations of foreign financial groups in Poland on the Warsaw Stock Exchange and currency markets. They want to know if someone wanted to depreciate the zloty. Vistula Wolczanka and Kruk merger approved by shareholders Shareholders welcomed the news of the merger, the stock of both companies jumped 16.4 percent for VW, the clothes group and 7.2 percent for Kruk, the jewelry distributor.
