SIAC to build 450m Polish motorwaySIAC Construction has won a major contract to build a motorway in Poland, worth over 450m. The Irish company will start work on the 35km motorway between Krakow and Rzeszow next month, and is expected to take two years to complete.
The company also recently won an award for its environmental improvement scheme in Armagh, and will carry out a similar scheme in Lurgan and Portadown.
Ronnie Foreman, Chairman of SIAC (NI), said: "With the downturn in the economy reducing major infrastructure project opportunities across Ireland and Great Britain, we took a strategic decision to try and develop international markets where we saw potential.
"We are delighted to have secured this contract. We are well equipped to undertake multi- disciplinary projects of this sort of scale and complexity," he added.
John Geoghegan, SIAC Operations Director, said: "This will be an exciting challenge for us, and we have already deployed some of our senior managers to Poland to commence working on this project."
The company are also speaking to sub-contractors in Ireland about working alongside SIAC in Poland, a spokesman said.
